So you've booked a boudoir session (or are considering it) and are feeling lost about next steps. Great! You're normal! So normal that I've put together a nice little prep-guide just for you! :)
If you have any further questions, definitely let me know. While I've tried to make it as thorough as possible, I always want to know how I can make it better.
Also, make sure to check out the outfit tips below!
Tips for looking your best!
** Jewelry can completely change a look. I always have a few options available, but personal items can be a nice touch.
** Moisturize! A little lotion prior to your session adds a nice glow, especially during the winter months.
** Avoid the self tanner! As much as we all like a little color to our skin, self-tanner rarely photographs well. Adding a bit of warmth to your photos is significantly easier than removing orange streaks.
** Manicures. These are easy to forget about in the planning process, but don't forget to take care of those babies as well!
** Avoid tight clothing the day of your session. This will minimize the indentations on your skin.
** Makeup photographs differently than what you see in the mirror. For anyone not professionally trained in hair and makeup, I highly recommend pampering yourself. If, for no other reason, than to just be pampered.
** And last, but not least...Have Fun!
What should I wear??
Picking outfits, especially if you aren't one to sport lingerie on the regular, can feel overwhelming. So I've compiled a list to help navigate that process.
Outfit options: These are things that typically photograph well on just about anyone, so I always recommend trying to have at least one at your session.
- Bodysuits: These can vary from full body, to more of a swimsuit style, either solid material (ex: faux leather) or lacy/netted nylon type material. These aid in masking / smoothing as well as providing a feeling of being more covered (which, again, if you're normal, everyone feels more comfortable being more covered, especially in the beginning).
- Lace: Ultimately, whatever YOU feel best in, is going to a first choice as that confidence will show in photos 100%. Something to consider, if you're buying something new is to look into at least one thing that includes lace. Lace is a nice option for providing interesting detail shots.
- Robes: Another "coverage" option that can also be super sexy are robes. I love the lace/semi-see through robes just because it provides a lot of options when photographing.
- Bra / Panty Set: I recommend bringing at least a couple of options for this. If for nothing else, than to just have different options.
- Color coordinating: If your purchasing new items for your session, be aware of colors / how they coordinate together as coordinating colors will help provide more versatility for your session. :)
Can I wear something that isn't lingerie?
Absolutely! There are a multitude of options for cute/sexy outfits that aren't expensive lingerie sets that you may or may not wear again.
** Oversized button up dress shirt (pairing these with a cute pair of panties / boxers / pajama shorts can be super cute.
** Oversized sweaters (pairing these with long wool socks can provide a great look as well)
** Fun Jackets. These can be denim, leather, sport/rec related (service worker/BMX/letter jacket/etc.), blazers/suit jackets, etc. Putting these on over a cute bra, or entirely by itself is always a fun way to switch things up/away from lingerie.
Have any other fun ideas that I should add? Let me know!
