Why boudoir?
Sometimes I find it hard to put into words why I love boudoir photography. I feel like it's so much more than just photos; it's about self-love, body positivity, and art. It's about getting dolled up and having fun. It's about the transformation that takes place between the time you walk into my studio and the time you walk out. It's about feeling beautiful -- which is something I believe everybody deserves.
I started photographing boudoir because I, wholeheartedly, believe in the benefit of seeing yourself as more than just a mom, housekeeper or career woman. It's easy to lose ourselves in these titles and then pile on the "I'm too tall", "my nose is too big", "my boobs are too small", "my tummy is too soft", "my legs are too dimply", "my skin is too rough" (I've heard / said them all) and our confidence takes a nose dive. That being said, there's just something about seeing ourselves as sexy and confident that makes you believe you can take on the world.
The Transformation
The transformation that took place once I started photographing boudoir is the best part of the whole experience. When a woman arrives for her session, most of the time, she's nervous. Some are much more visibly nervous than others, which is something that I 100% expect and understand first hand. Once they sit in the chair for hair and makeup, though, the transformation begins. Her insecurities slowly begin to fade as she watched herself transform before her own eyes.
When the hair and makeup is done, the fun begins. The first outfit is usually something more conservative as I feel it helps with nerves, however, once they start seeing the images that I'm taking, and realize how good they look...the nervousness vanishes, and you can see the spark that will grow into a full blaze by the end of our time together. The woman that walks out of that session is not the same woman that walked in - she knows how beautiful she is and has discovered a fire inside of her that she had either lost or wasn't even aware she had.
When we go through her gallery of images, it only validates that new found confidence. She sees herself like she never has before. It really is like a therapy you never thought you needed. You can doubt me all you want, but I can guarantee you'll be dying to show your photos to as many people as you can. ;)
